WWF’s Earth Hour 2010 aims to unite the world’s people to demonstrate their concern about climate change. It will let world leaders know the world is still watching, following the UN Climate Summit in Copenhagen in 2009, and expects them to take urgent action to tackle climate change.

Earth Hour 2009 was hugely successful, reaching millions of people across the world. In Wales thousands of people tool part and lights went out in over 5000 homes across Wales as well as the nation’s most iconic landmarks, including Wales’ Millennium Stadium, Caernarfon Castle, Tintern Abbey in Pembrokeshire, and the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth. The event was also supported in Scotland by 70% of local authorities, over a 100 schools and several well known faces in Wales such as BBC Wales and S4C wildlife presenter Iolo Williams, Welsh rugby captain Ryan Jones and Melanie C, former spice girl who lives in Monmouthshire,

We want to make Earth Hour 2010 even bigger and better. Whether you are a business, local authority, school, community group or individual, we’d love you to take part. If you’d like more information just get in touch – email Wales@wwf.org.uk , phone 029 2045 4970 or just sign up.

The Welsh Assembly Government is supporting Earth Hour as a simple yet powerful way to demonstrate how everyone can play their part in the fight against climate change.

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges we all face today and cutting down on the energy we use will be one of the most effective ways to reduce the CO2 emissions that contribute to climate change.
